WHAT IGNITED THE SPARK IN YOU TO START A BUSINESS?

The construction industry in India is plagued with unorganized suppliers with no standards in quality and supply. This proves to be a nightmare for people who want to build their own houses. This problem in the construction material industry sparked the idea to create b-Easy into one platform where customers can find quality materials at affordable prices and which can be ordered with a click of a button.
 

Which college/university did you choose to complete your studies?

I did my masters in Entrepreneurship from 3 universities every trimester, Purdue University – USA, Emlyon Business School – France, Zhejiang University – China
 

WHAT ARE THE TOP THREE ADVICE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO GIVE TO YOUNG GRADUATES WHO ASPIRE TO BECOME ENTREPRENEURS?

Identify the problem you are trying to solve, if the problem isn’t big enough it is very unlikely that your idea will succeed.
 

WHAT IS YOUR CORE PRODUCT OR SERVICE?

Supply of construction materials like steel, cement, sand, blocks, tiles, etc to the end customer
 

WHAT IS THE MOST EXCITING THING RELATED WITH YOUR BUSINESS?

At b-Easy we deal with customers from various different backgrounds, some are IT professionals who do not have the time to search for different vendors and look for the most convenient way to order materials, we also get people who take full interest in the construction of their home and have the time to visit different vendors and negotiate. Then we also deal with contractors who look to purchase at the cheapest rates to maximize their profits.
Dealing with such a diverse set of customers provide for a very rich learning experience which drive us to deliver better customer experience. 
 

HOW DO YOU DO MARKETING ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS? WHAT HAS BEEN THE SUCCESSFUL FORM OF MARKETING?

One thing that I have realized while working with b-Easy is that no matter how great your idea or how good your product is, all of this means nothing if you are unable to sell it to your customers. This makes marketing one of the most essential aspect in any business whether you are in the service business or in the business of selling goods. Given the added pressure of immense competition in the market the need to establish a useful differential factor in the minds of the customers becomes even more difficult. At b-Easy we use a mixture of both offline and online marketing. In the offline mode we use various media channels such as outdoor advertisements on buses, auto rickshaws, movie theaters and for the online channels we use social media such as Facebook, SEO and GoogleAdwords. In our experience no one form of channel is enough to achieve the targets we set and we maintain a fine balance in all our marketing channels to achieve our goals.
 
For b-Easy the mix of both online and offline marketing has helped it reach the target audience.
 

CHALLENGES ARE BUNDLED UP ALONG ALL VENTURES, WHAT SORT OF CHALLENGES DID YOU FACE? HOW DID YOU MANAGE UPS AND DOWNS IN ROLLER COASTER RIDE?

Since the construction materials industry in India is very unorganized the major problem we face is standardization of materials, prices and logistics.
We have tried to solve this issue by getting all our products tested as per IS standards and have partnered with quality suppliers and take care of logistics ourselves.
This has helped in ensuring quality materials being supplied at affordable prices in a timely manner.

WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF SUCCESS FOR YOU? HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF?

Success for me is something, which is very dynamic in nature, I set goals and targets on a day to day basis and try my best to achieve them, it can be both professional and personal goals. Today the business environment changes every second and it is very important to stay on top of these changes if one wants to succeed, this means that success today only lasts for an instance and can quickly fade away if we get complaisant. 
 

WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON COMPETITORS?

I personally believe that competition is required in every business and only if there is strong competition we as entrepreneurs come out with innovation and try to become more efficient. We have seen the examples of great business like HMT, Hindustan Motors, Kodak, Blackberry etc fade away due to lack of or non-existence of any worthy competitors during their time. Such companies more often than not make themselves believe that the business environment will always remain in their favor and they do not innovate resulting in slow but sure death.
 

BIGGEST RISK YOU HAVE EVER TAKEN? HOW DID YOU MANAGE THAT RISK FACTOR?

The biggest risk I have ever taken till date would be to take a year off from work to pursue my higher education. Right after my under graduation I joined the family business and was trying to learn the tricks of the trade. I worked in the family business for 4 years in which I had the opportunity to streamline our business operations and design systems to make our workflows more transparent and efficient. I also looked into exports and was coordinating with clients abroad. After 4 long years I felt the need for fresh ideas and decided to pursue my higher education.
 

WHICH IS THE MOST INSPIRING BOOK FOR YOU?

Delivering Happiness by Tony Hsieh is one book that has really inspired me.
 

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR COMPANY CULTURE?

The culture we’ve tried to cultivate at b-Easy is to spoil our customers with our service and convenience so that he only thinks of b-Easy while purchasing construction materials. We go beyond normal means to ensure our customers have an unparalleled experience right from the time they send the inquiry to the time the material is delivered to their doorstep. This culture in all our people give us an edge over our competition and this is probably the reason why in one year of its existence b-Easy’s has achieved what its competitors has taken more than 3 years to achieve.
 

WHAT SACRIFICES YOU HAD TO MAKE TO BE AN SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR?

I wouldn’t call myself a successful entrepreneur yet.
 

IF YOU HAD GOT THE CHANCE TO START THE CARRIER AGAIN, WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY?

Its too soon for this as this is just the beginning.
 

HOW LONG DO YOU STICK WITH AN IDEA BEFORE GIVING UP?

In any startup, one needs to be on their toes and not afraid to try new things, not every idea will give results as planned. Don’t be afraid to pivot when necessary, sticking to a plan that is not giving results is worse.
