WHAT IGNITED THE SPARK IN YOU TO START A BUSINESS?
Business is something which I always wanted to do, when in childhood other children were thinking of becoming Doctor or Engineer. At that time I wanted to be a Businessman. So the spark of doing my own was within me since my childhood. I had tried a lot of businesses before starting WhatsurSkill with my brother Rohit Kedia.
Which college/university did you choose to complete your studies?
I have completed my studies from Calcutta University.
WHAT ARE THE TOP THREE ADVICE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO GIVE TO YOUNG GRADUATES WHO ASPIRE TO BECOME ENTREPRENEURS?
I just wanted to say to the newcomers that:
1. You need a lot of patience and confidence to start of your own.
2. Don’t just start a business to get funded, instead start a business which itself has a strong revenue model and try to raise money only to scale your business and not to run your business.
3. Before starting any thing please do your homework properly, do a lot of research on your product to understand if your product do have any market or not, will your product be able to generate revenue or not.
WHAT IS YOUR CORE PRODUCT OR SERVICE?
We are aggregator of Graphic Designers and Photographers, we organize competitions related to Designing and Photography. We have recently entered into Bollywood with Akshay kumar’s upcoming movie Toilet by organizing move poster designing competition where the winner will get the chance to meet Akshay Kumar in person. We have also Organised many competition for Tourism ministry and currently we have organised a Logo Designing Competition for Uttarakhand Tourism Ministry. As our tagline says “Your Passion Your Success”, we are giving an opportunity to everyone to showcase their talent and get the fame they deserve.
WHAT IS THE MOST EXCITING THING RELATED WITH YOUR BUSINESS?
The most exciting things related to our business is we are trying to provide unique opportunities always.
HOW DO YOU DO MARKETING ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS? WHAT HAS BEEN THE SUCCESSFUL FORM OF MARKETING?
I feel marketing is all about knowing your right audience, I have seen many brands marketing their product without knowing their right audience which is very wrong. I am very glad to say that Mohit is our CMO and he gives his best to come up with very creative ideas to do our marketing.
CHALLENGES ARE BUNDLED UP ALONG ALL VENTURES, WHAT SORT OF CHALLENGES DID YOU FACE? HOW DID YOU MANAGE UPS AND DOWNS IN ROLLER COASTER RIDE?
Challenges and business go hand in hand. Every day you will find a new challenge in your business, but as our CEO Rohit Kedia always says “Every Challenge has an Opportunity”, we start finding the opportunities in every challenge and that is the only thing which help us to cope with all the challenges.
WHAT ARE THE FACTORS YOU KEEP IN MIND WHILE HIRING THE RIGHT PEOPLE IN YOUR ORGANIZATION
While hiring people I try to make sure that the candidate is joining us for long term. As to make a business successful you need to retain employees for long term rather then hiring too many employees for short term. I also make assure that the candidate will work in the company not as an employee but as a teammate and treat the company as if its their only and they are not working here just to get salary but working for the growth of the company.
WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF SUCCESS FOR YOU? HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF?
Success is something when others start talking about you and your success instead of you yourself talking about that. I don’t see myself apart from WhatsurSkill and frankly speaking WhatsurSkill has a long way to go currently its just the start.
WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON COMPETITORS?
We have many competitors in the industry but I think a businessman has to focus on his own business instead of investing his time on competitors as that will make you and your business more strong and powerful.
BIGGEST RISK YOU HAVE EVER TAKEN? HOW DID YOU MANAGE THAT RISK FACTOR?
After starting WhatsurSkill I understand that in a successful business you have to take lots of risk. As we all have studied during our childhood, ‘No Risk No Gain’ or ‘More Risk More Gain’ that statement is applied in our entire journey of business, though we have faced many a time that after taking risk we have to loose a lot but again taking risk is very necessary and that is the only thing which helps us to come to this point.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR COMPANY CULTURE?
We don’t follow any strict culture. We believe every stakeholders of the company should know their responsibilities and company should not create any boundaries in the way they want to work. Company should always concerned about the final output, as their is no rule book about how to reach there.
